New Feature on Scribjab and Project Winding Down

Please note, the following new feature has just been activated on Scribjab: When you click on a published book, you will see on the title page a pdf download button making it possible to download a copy of the book.

Thank you for your interest in Scribjab, which has been in operation since 2014, when Kelleen Toohey and Diane Dagenais, two professors from Simon Fraser University (SFU) worked with a design team at the university to create the website and corresponding iPad application. Since 2018, Geneviève Brisson, a professor formerly at Simon Fraser University and now at l’Université de Sherbrooke, has worked with Diane Dagenais on Scribjab to conduct research, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. This research aimed at documenting home, school and community library environments in which Scribjab is used. Two doctoral research assistants from SFU, Magali Forte and Gwénaëlle André, worked on all aspects of this project and were co-presenters at conferences and co-authors of publications that discuss our observations and thinking about the research (see the list of publications related to Scribjab below). Magali Forte conducted her doctoral research in the context of this project. Rapinder Rai worked as moderator of the Scribjab website since it was lauched. As well, a number of IT specialists, whose names are listed on the Scribjab website, worked on various aspects of designing, upgrading and maintaining the Scribjab website and application.

The research funding for Scribjab will end in fall 2022 and the website will continue to be maintained until the end of October 2022. It will be possible to continue reading books published on the site for as long as it functions. However, it is no longer possible to create new books on Scribjab. But, in the years to come, Geneviève Brisson and her team will be working on a new and revised version of Scribjab.

We offer our heartfelt thanks all users of Scribjab who participated in creating delightful multilingual and multimodal stories online. We are grateful to our cherished moderator and research assistants for their dedication and attentive contributions to this work and appreciate the expertise of the technicians who worked on the design, upgrades and maintenance of Scribjab. The participation of all in Scribjab has provided new insights into multilingual and multimodal story production.
